VALUED VALUES

Last year I decided to go to Thailand on a pleasure trip during my winter vacation. I along with my wife, with a distinct and ecstatic feeling of going abroad for the first time reached the international air port well before the schedule departure time of our flight. I got busy in currency conversion formalities at one of the counters there in the lounge of the airport itself. Finding the value of my currency almost at the bottom of the digital display board showing respective values of currencies of different nations, I felt disappointed and curious as to what makes the value of my country’s currency even lower than the currency of a tiny nation like Thailand whose economy is primarily based on tourism, night life and licensed sex practices.   The Indian co passengers in the plane showed their extreme amazement at my wife accompanying me to a place like Thailand. Earlier also the friends suggested me to go to that place alone if I really wanted to ‘enjoy’ that place and its...

In fact, at times my heart also appears to be telling myself, “You certainly defy your age”. Perhaps my heart which is not getting older with the body does not a...

Emotions On Societal Churning

I feel extremely privileged being a teacher. 38 years of blissful moments filled with pleasure and passion are the priceless assets amassed by me during all these years. The most valued and cherished reward for a teacher is the smile, respect and contentment writ large on the faces of students sitting in the classroom. Nothing can match this priceless feeling which makes a teacher taller than the tallest. One such day as I was busy with my routine lecture, the context got diverted to importance of moral values and principles in one’s life. As I was enjoying my passionate engagement with students, a student sitting on the rear benches suddenly raised his hand signaling his desire to say something. I made a brief pause and invited his version. Without uttering a word he came out of the row and started moving towards me. Overflowing with emotions and expressions of respect, he bowed and literally placed his forehead on my feet and unfolded his love. I also got emotionally soaked...
